The cold season has come early this year. Illnesses like the flu virus and the common cold, rear their ugly heads. During this season, our bodies aren’t receiving enough vitamin D from the sunlight. Which makes us much more susceptible to catching the flu. Keeping warm isn’t enough to keep you from getting sick. You need to ensure your body is getting enough nutrients to boost your immunity.

Foods that may Boost the Immune System

A diet of high-quality proteins, beneficial fats, and locally grown vegetables. If you constantly get one cold after another, try some of these foods in your diet. We broke it down in this Meal Planner.

Chicken Soup is often associated with recovery from illness. Garlic stimulates your immune system to better fight off cold and flu symptoms. Adding garlic to your chicken soup or using it to season your wild-caught fish or meat will definitely boost your immunity.

Vegetables are healthy and important for optimal health and weight loss! I Don’t mean potatoes, but greens like spinach, lettuce, kale, mushrooms

I can’t mention enough, how important fruits are. Vitamin C, found in citrus fruits and juices, may also help the body’s immune system.

Eating habits to practice

Washing your hands is key to protecting yourself against germs and bacteria that cause diseases. A common way to catch a cold is by rubbing your nose or eyes, so to protect against infection wash your hands frequently.

When washing hands. Use warm water, soap and wash for several minutes for best results.

Ensure you don’t miss a meal and drink a lot of water.

Avoid consumption of cold drinks, alcohol or excessive smoking during this cold period.

We can’t help getting sick during this cold season,  but we can protect ourselves by taking care of our bodies. Real food supports the body’s natural defences and can help you stay well.
